Managing Attorney
Job Summary
Utah Legal Services is searching for an energetic and dedicated Managing Attorney to join our team. In this role you will be responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction to the team, managing day-to-day legal operations, and ensuring the taskforce delivers high-quality legal services. This role involves both legal work and management responsibilities, requiring the ability to balance legal practice with administrative duties. Primary responsibilities include provide supervisory oversight for members of an assigned task force, serve as the substantive expert for the task force, oversee training and mentoring to support team development, participate in strategic initiatives, and provide superior case management to achieve optimal outcomes for clients.

Job Responsibilities and Duties
- Oversee and manage a team of attorneys, paralegals, and support staff.
- Provide mentorship, training, and professional development opportunities for junior attorneys.
- Ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Work with senior attorneys to ensure staff members receive adequate support and training.
- Remain cognizant of staffs’ caseload and experience.
- Hold regular, meaningful meetings that provide relevant training regarding LSC case compliance.
- Work to become familiar with team in order to identify their strengths and appropriately delegate tasks and hold staff accountable for related performance.
- Ensure attorneys meet Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements.
- Set appropriate expectations and model behavior likely to help staff meet these expectations.
- Engage in active team building, creating a positive work environment.
- Responsible for reviewing and approving time reports from taskforce members.
- Oversee hiring, training, and performance evaluations of legal staff.
- Maintain relationships with current community partners and work to establish new relationships that will aid in improving client services.
- Assist, as requested, with grant applications and reports related to practice area.
- Attend trainings and taskforce meetings; complete appropriate CLEs.
- Report regularly to senior leadership on departmental performance and strategic initiatives.
- Keep up-to-date with changes in laws, regulations, and industry trends that impact legal practice areas.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as HR, finance, IT, and administration, to streamline operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Strong typing and computer skills.
- Spanish fluency strongly preferred but not required.
Education / Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Juris Doctorate degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school.
- Admission and Good Standing within the Utah State Bar Association.
Job Factors/Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at a time.

- This position is exempt, full-time (40 hours/week)
- Salary $99,000-$110,000
