Marketing and Communications Specialist

GENERAL PURPOSE 

Under the Development Director's direct supervision and the Executive Director's general supervision, execute communications and marketing, public relations, and brand management initiatives, projects, and functions as directed.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

              Work closely with the Development Director in fundraising and development initiatives.

  • Carry out the marketing and branding efforts for the agency, including a media engagement strategy.  
  • Development and marketing of awareness, education, outreach, and fundraising efforts of the organization.
  • Assist in the production of digital and print collateral such as newsletters, annual reports, agency flyers, and brochures.
  • Produce and maintain an annual content calendar for all agency communication platforms
  • Maintain and generate content for the YCC website, calendars, social media, and print media that reflects the organizational mission, strategic plan, and services in a timely and trauma-informed manner.
  • Participate in strategic communication efforts and media relations activities, including writing press releases and media alerts, and maintaining a digital news archive.
  • Produce graphic design as needed for communication pieces, events, and projects. 
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of YCC brand guidelines 
  • Maintain YCC social media accounts, including responding to online requests and connecting inquiries to appropriate staff. 
  • Promote YCC events, trainings, educational opportunities, youth, and volunteer activities.
  • Help coordinate and support special events sponsored by YCC. 
  • Generate ideas and creative ways to raise funds.
  • Track the effectiveness of communication strategies through analytic reports. 
  • Represent YCC in pertinent meetings or opportunities in the community. 
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures in the Employee Handbook and any applicable Policy and Procedure Manual.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, business, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2+ years’ experience in either public relations, marketing, community outreach, and/or non-profit industry.

  • Combination of education and experience

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

  • High degree of energy, self-motivation, collaboration, and flexibility.    
  • Must be a creative-minded self-starter who can multitask well.
  • Strong work ethic with a professional, positive attitude.
  • Must have strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and interact with all people.
  • Knowledge and understanding of trauma-informed care preferred.
  • High level of diplomacy, sound judgment, and discretion in generating messaging and when interacting with the public and staff.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Exceptional time management, attention to detail, and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and producing online, digital, and printed materials, especially for fundraising communications.
  • Exceptional writing, communication, and presentation skills across multiple mediums.
  • Demonstrated experience in graphic design, website design, and social media management.
  • Experience with design for print and electronic media required.  Canva experience preferred.
  • Must have social media and website content management experience. Knowledge of Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Google Analytics required.  
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks effectively with a focus on accuracy, timeliness, and responsiveness.
  • Bilingual/Spanish-speaking a plus.

  • Must be able to occasionally move objects of 15 lbs.
