Marketing & Communications Specialist (Contractor)

Engagement Type: Independent Contractor (1099)

Duration: 12 months

Location: Hybrid (Summit or Wasatch County–based preferred)

Reports to: Associate Executive Director

Rate: $21,000 ($1,750/month) 

Estimated Hours: 10-12 hours a week

Payment Terms: $1,750/month payable on the 1st regular payday of the month.

Ownership: All work created during the contract remains the intellectual property of Mountain Mediation.


This is a contractor position and does not include benefits. Contractor will be responsible for withholding their own taxes and will receive a 1099 Form from Mountain Mediation. 



Overview: Mountain Mediation is looking for an innovative and creative Communications and Marketing Specialist to grow our organization’s strategic communications. Mountain Mediation is in a period of rapid growth, and this position is an integral part of ensuring the continued growth and a consistent brand presence for the organization. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys storytelling and can write focused, concise content, emphasizing strong subject lines, headlines, and stories that engage and inspire our donors and clients to act. We are looking for a highly organized individual who can capture all the details, follow processes, and express Mountain Mediation's voice and brand in creative ways.  


The contractor will provide professional-level marketing and communication services, with a focus on brand consistency and high-quality content production.


  • Graphic Design:
    • Design and produce visually compelling materials, including digital and print brochures, social media graphics, and website elements.
    • Maintain and evolve visual brand guidelines across all channels.
    • Coordinate with external vendors (e.g., printers) for material production.


  • Content Creation:
    • Draft and edit high-quality copy for newsletters, blog posts, press releases, and leadership messages.
    • Produce multimedia assets such as short-form videos, infographics, and photo editing.
    • Manage the social media editorial calendar and day-to-day community engagement.
    • Maintain, create, & update website content.


  • Communication Strategy:
    • Work with AD to develop and execute integrated communication plans for product launches, events, or internal updates.
    • Spearhead multimedia marketing efforts and social media best practices to foster community engagement and programmatic growth
    • Track and report on campaign performance using KPIs (e.g., conversion rates, engagement).


  • Requirements & Technical Skills
    • Experience: 3–5 years in marketing communications, with a strong portfolio in both design and writing.
    • Software Proficiency: Mastery of Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) or Canva.
    • Marketing Tools: Experience with CMS platforms (WordPress), email tools (Mailchimp), and Google Analytics.
    • Experience and knowledge of short video production for Social Media
    • Soft Skills: Proven ability to manage multiple projects independently under tight deadlines.
    • Great writing and editing skills  
    • Respond to requests in a timely manner
    • Participate in occasional staff and team meetings - online


  • Milestones
    • Assist AD in new website launch (currently have a company working on it but need contractor feedback and help) - March 31, 2026
    • Full rebranding by March 31, 2023 - Mountain Mediation has a new logo and new messaging that must be updated on past collateral
    • Produce Media/outreach packet - March 31, 2026    
    • Produce 3  Newsletter - May, September, & November
    • Produce weekly Social Media Posts to grow Mountain Mediations' voice in the mediation community
    • Produce outreach and event materials for the annual fundraiser in fall 2026
    • Maintain Communication KPI’s in the programming dashboard monthly
    • Producing outreach and program materials for events as they arise- Let’s Talk℠, annual fundraiser, Keynote speaker, etc. i.e. flyers, posts, press releases, programs, signage, etc.
