Position Overview


Utah Film Center is looking for a natural-born storyteller to lead our brand. The Marketing Director provides strategic direction, leadership, and execution across all organizational marketing initiatives. In a fast-paced, high-energy environment, this role is for a results-driven leader who brings enthusiasm, initiative, and focus to achieving measurable audience growth, revenue targets, and national visibility. As our footprint expands, the Director will help to

crystallize our value proposition and bring that story to life across every platform through a consistent brand voice. 


The Marketing Director will lead digital storytelling through dynamic video and multimedia content. A core priority of this role is internal collaboration: the Director works closely with


program staff, builds trust, and serves as an engaged partner to support their goals. Leading an internal team and managing external contractors, the Director oversees all marketing, branding, and video/digital promotions for film exhibitions, the Artist Foundry, and K-12 media education.


This is a full-time, salaried position based in Salt Lake City at our state-of-the-art new location in

the historic Marmalade District. Standard working hours are 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through

Friday, with flexibility required for evening and weekend events such as festivals, premieres, and

community screenings. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Marketing Director serves

as a key executive partner, working collaboratively with all department heads to drive

organizational strategy and dynamic brand growth.


Primary Duties & Responsibilities


1. High-Impact Collaborative Marketing

● Brand Architecture and Brand Voice: Crystallize Utah Film Center’s brand strategy and

value proposition, ensuring consistency across departments and platforms.

● Drive Measurable Results: Design, launch, and optimize high-energy,

performance-driven marketing campaigns that expand audience reach, increase ticket

and festival pass sales, and boost regional and national program participation.

● Digital Storytelling & Video Strategy: Develop the overarching digital storytelling and

video strategy for Utah Film Center, setting creative direction and priorities across

platforms to strengthen the organization’s position as a creative hub and elevate the

stories of local and global filmmakers, K-12 students, and the Film Center’s programs

and events.

● Expanded Footprint & Program Opportunities: Build ongoing awareness and market

demand around the expanded resources, physical experiences, and digital offerings

made possible by our new permanent home and national growth. Partner closely with

executive leadership and development to design and execute high-impact strategies that

introduce new donors to Utah Film Center, build enthusiasm around the opportunities our

new home enables, and cement the organization's long-term financial success.

● Core Pillar Promotion: Develop and oversee integrated marketing strategies for the

Capital Campaign, Film Exhibition, Artist Support, and Media Education, in collaboration

with program leads and the Marketing Manager.

○ Capital Campaign: Partner closely with the Executive Director and development

to design and execute high-impact strategies that introduce new donors to Utah

Film Center, build enthusiasm, and highlight the cultural and community value of

our new building.

○ Exhibition: Drive attendance, ticket sales, and subscriptions for year-round

theatrical screenings, special events, and annual film festivals (including Utah

Queer Film Festival and Tumbleweeds Film Festival for Kids).

○ Artist Foundry: Promote memberships, studio access, workshops, and industry

opportunities to independent filmmakers locally and nationally.

○ Media Education: Market K-12 media literacy programs, teacher professional

development, and student screening programs to statewide school districts,

educators, and educational networks nationwide.

● Calculated Risk-Taking: Implement creative, agile marketing tactics that test new

approaches to audience acquisition while maintaining brand fidelity and delivering high

ROI.

● Website Strategy: Own site performance, messaging, UX, and conversion

optimization.

● Budgeting, Forecasting & Performance Analytics: Develop and manage the annual

marketing budget. Routinely present marketing and campaign performance and ROI to

the leadership team and stakeholders.

● National & Global Market Reach: Build and execute targeted campaigns in new

national markets to elevate awareness of the Film Center’s expanding

footprint—specifically promoting filmmakers telling stories from around the world.


2. Inter-Departmental Collaboration & Audience Strategy

● Team Alignment: Build strong, trust-based relationships with program and department

leaders to ensure marketing serves as an active, supportive, and energetic partner

across all initiatives.

● Customer Journeys & Personas: Consult directly with program teams to define

audience personas and build specific marketing pipelines tailored to local and national

educators, global independent artists, members, donors, and film audiences.

● External Relations Integration: Partner closely with the Development Director and

Executive Director to align marketing strategies with corporate sponsorships, donor

cultivation, membership growth, and Capital Campaign goals.

● Strategize, review, and approve print materials in partnership with graphic designers,

the marketing manager, and internal department heads.

● Systems Integration: Utilize internal software platforms to track customer journeys,

segment audiences, and optimize promotional and AI workflows:


3. Team Leadership & Contractor Supervision

● Leadership Member: Serve as an active member of the leadership team, collaborating

with executive peers to help shape overall organizational strategy, define long-term

priorities, and inform the future direction of Utah Film Center.

● Culture & Process Catalyst: Play an integral role in fostering a positive, inclusive, and

strategic organizational culture. Help design, refine, and champion core operational

processes and inter-departmental workflows that improve organizational efficiency and

alignment.

● Team Leadership & Mentorship: Direct, mentor, and manage internal marketing staff

(including the Marketing Manager), maintaining a proactive, collaborative, and

result-oriented environment that encourages creative risk-taking and professional growth.

● Vendor & Contractor Management: Partner with the Marketing Manager to hire and

direct external contractors supporting video production, graphic design, print collateral,

and digital advertising. Ensure all external assets meet high-quality standards, brand

guidelines, and tight deadlines.


Required Qualifications

● Communication & Storytelling: Strong written, visual, and verbal communication skills.

Passion for independent cinema, national media education, and diverse storytelling.

● Experience: 5+ years of professional marketing experience, with at least 2 years in a

management or director-level role. Preference for 1-2 years of working for arts, film,

education, or cultural nonprofits or a small startup brand.

● Leadership Experience: At least 2+ years on managing teams or independent

contractors

● Collaborative Mindset: Demonstrated ability to build trust across diverse teams, working

proactively as a service-oriented partner to internal departments.

● Organizational Skills: Exceptional organizational skills and keen attention to detail.

Ability to manage multiple high-stakes campaigns simultaneously under tight deadlines.

● Results-driven: A track record of driving measurable growth and achieving ambitious

performance metrics across local, national, or digital markets.

● Video Production: Background in digital storytelling strategies. A working knowledge in

video production techniques is a plus

● Technical Proficiency: Advanced Experience using Salesforce (or similar CRM),

WordPress, Asana, Slack, and Eventive.


Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $78,000 - $80,000 plus a benefits package including paid holidays, 22 days paid

time off in year 1, medical, dental, and Simple IRA
