Medicaid Billing & Office Assistant
Job Summary
The Medicaid Billing & Office Assistant is responsible for billing Medicaid, Cost Reimbursement, and Fee for Service funders to support THRIVE Center for Survivors of Torture’s services. This position works closely with direct service and administrative staff to ensure proper billing and documentation of all services.

Qualifications
Required:
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Two or more years’ experience with bookkeeping or other financial duties, preferably in a nonprofit setting
Preferred:
- Valid driver’s license, access to an automobile, insurance, and willingness to drive to off-site locations
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
Competencies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Salesforce required; QuickBooks preferred
- Strong attention to detail—you often catch things others miss
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Experience, comfort, and sensitivity working in a multicultural environment
- Must maintain confidentiality and HIPAA standards, recognize appropriate boundaries, and cope with emotionally stressful situations
- Must pass a background check

Position Details
- Hours: Part-time, 20–24 hours per week
- Pay Range: $24.00–$28.00 per hour
- Supervisory Responsibilities: None
- Travel: A valid driver’s license and insurance are required
Work Environment
- Services are provided on-site at THRIVE offices
- Hybrid schedule: up to 5 hours per week may be completed remotely for administrative tasks
- Additional time away from the office is likely, including outreach events
- Approximately 80% of time is spent on computer-based tasks
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit (at a desk for extended periods of time), stand, and walk. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies of up to 10 pounds.

The mission of THRIVE Center for Survivors of Torture (THRIVE) is to walk alongside survivors of torture through trauma-informed care that addresses both visible and invisible wounds. We provide integrated case support, mental health services, medical navigation, and community connections to help survivors rebuild trust, restore dignity, and thrive as part of our shared community.
At the core of torture, trust between two human beings is destroyed. Our services focus on restoring trust and helping a survivor rebuild emotional, physical, social, and spiritual bonds. Our work also aims to prevent the effects of intergenerational trauma.
THRIVE was founded in 2003 in response to the unmet needs of torture survivors in our community. Today, THRIVE is the only organization in Utah that specializes in serving torture survivors, having served over 5,000 individuals to date.
