Summary: 

As our Mental Health Specialist, you will successfully identify possible behavioral and mental health concerns of children. Your strong rapport and relationship building skills will serve you well in this role as you nurture genuine, supportive, and productive relationships with children and their families. Each day will look different from the next as you provide mental health services to children and families in our Head Start program including assessment, diagnosis, referral, and treatment services. Our organization, Ogden Weber Community Action Partnership (OWCAP), is searching for a proactive Mental Health Specialist who is passionate about making a meaningful impact on the lives of our community by ensuring appropriate mental health services are provided to children and their families.

 

What you’ll need to be our Mental Health Specialist:

  • Action-oriented and collaborative approach to decision-making
  • Strong rapport and relationship building skills
  • Confident in handling a variety of challenges and priorities
  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Professional Counseling or School Counseling
  • Licensed Mental Health professional in the State of Utah
  • One year’s experience working with young children

What you’ll do as the Mental Health Specialist:


Provide mental health services to Head Start children and their families that may include assessment, diagnosis, referral, and treatment services in the areas of behavior and emotional concerns in accordance with Head Start Program Performance Standards.

Consult with parents and staff concerning assessment summary and treatment plans of Head Start children using parent’s expertise and knowledge to facilitate treatment plans.

Provide training for parents of Head Start children and staff on identifying possible behavioral and mental health concerns including appropriate behavioral modification techniques.

Maintain and keep current required documentation.  Ensure documentation is secured as outlined in the OWCAP Employee Handbook, Health Information Protection Policy.
