Overview

    The Mentor Teacher/Coach will guide and support the implementation of the social-emotional curriculum, ensuring a high-quality learning environment for children aged 3-5.  This individual will serve as both a master teacher and coach, providing mentorship to staff and ensuring alignment with best practices for child development, emotional regulation and social skills. 


Key Responsibilities:


1. Instructional Leadership:

  1. Plan, implement, and evaluate curriculum that promotes social-emotional development, aligned with early childhood standards and best practices. 

  2. Model exemplary teaching practices in the classroom, particularly in the areas of social-emotional learning, positive behavior supports, and conflict resolution. 

  3. Oversee the development of individual learning plans for children, using data from social-emotional assessments and observations.

  4. Staff Coaching and Development:

    1. Mentor and support teaching staff, offering professional development, guidance, and strategies for classroom management and social-emotional skill-building. 

    2. Facilitate reflective practices with teachers to improve instructional methods and classroom climate. 

    3. Conduct regular classroom observations and provide feedback focused on prompting a nurturing, supportive, and emotionally safe learning environment.

    4. Collaborate with teachers to adjust strategies to meet the needs of children facing emotional or behavioral challenges. 

  5. Data-Driven Instruction and Program Evaluations: 

    1. Lead the use of assessment tools (such as ASQ-SE/ASQ-3/ECERS/Himama) to track children’s progress in social-emotional development. 

    2. Analyze classroom data and provide reports on children’s growth to inform instructional adjustments. 

    3. Ensure that the program’s goals are being met, and make recommendations for improvement based on research, data and best practices. 

  6. Collaboration and Leadership:

    1. Work closely with school administrators and admin interns to ensure the program’s success and alignment with broader school goals. 

    2. Participate in team meetings to address individual children’s needs and collaborate on intervention strategies. 

    3. Lead the development of a nurturing, trauma-responsive classroom culture that promotes inclusivity and emotional resilience. 



Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or a related field. 

  2. At least 3 years of experience working in early childhood education, with a focus on social-emotional learning. 

  3. Prior experience as a coach, mentor, or instructional leader is highly preferred. 

  4. Deep understanding of social-emotional curricula, such as Second Step, Conscious Discipline or Pyramid Model. 

  5. Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with teachers, children and families. 

  6. Experience working with diverse populations, including children with special needs and trauma backgrounds. 

  7. Support Implementation of the Pyramid Model through Practice Based Coaching


Key Competencies:

  1. Expertise in early childhood development and social-emotional learning strategies. 

  2. Ability to foster a positive and collaborative learning environment for both children and staff. 

  3. Skilled in reflective coaching and providing constructive, actionable feedback. 

  4. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. 


Compensation/Hours:

  1. Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications and 20 days of PTO

  2. 25 to 30 per week
