 At YWCA Utah, we’re looking for a go-getter with a heart of gold to join our team as an Operations Support Assistant. This isn’t your typical desk job—it’s a dynamic, full-time (36 hours/week) role where you'll split your time between the hustle of our kitchen and the heartbeat of our business office. You’ll help nourish our shelter residents with care and compassion while keeping the behind-the-scenes operations running like a well-oiled machine.

Schedule & Role Rhythm
 The Operations Support Assistant works a consistent, reliable schedule that helps anchor the flow of our team’s day-to-day needs:

  • Mondays & Tuesdays: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Thursdays & Fridays: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Wednesdays off = midweek reset!

This full-time role follows a steady routine, with time generally split between kitchen prep and duties, administrative office support, and stepping in where extra hands are needed. Designed as a key support for our Operations team, this position plays a flexible but predictable role—filling in the gaps and keeping things running smoothly, every single week.


Essential Job Functions:

Kitchen Duties

  • Set up, serve, and clean up meals for shelter residents
  • Safely store prepared meals and ensure proper food handling procedures
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen and dining areas
  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure timely and courteous service
  • Provide a friendly and trauma-informed approach for participants when serving meals and interacting in the café


Business Office & Administrative Support

  • Perform general office tasks (filing, data entry, mail handling)
  • Assist with intake and organization of in-kind donations
  • Help manage and stock the shelter boutique for resident access
  • Support shelter residents with package pickup and resource access
  • Assist with light facilities or operations tasks as needed
  • Work collaboratively with staff across departments


Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in food service, administrative support, or nonprofit work preferred
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks and switch between work settings efficiently
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with general office duties, computer systems, and technology such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize responsibilities across multiple functional areas
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and skilled in establishing effective working relationships
  • Ability to collaborate and invite collaboration
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

This position is physically active and partially takes place in a busy kitchen setting. It may require handling large food deliveries, managing multiple prep tasks simultaneously, and maintaining a clean, efficient workspace. This role requires standing for long periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in both kitchen and storage environments. Occasional evening or holiday work may be required to support special events or programming. Staff must demonstrate professionalism and empathy in interactions with shelter participants and staff alike, understanding the impact of trauma on behavior and communication.
