Job Description


Salary commensurate with experience $50,000-$55,000 yearly


Purpose

To implement and/or administer the Parents as Teachers (PAT) program following the organization's mission. Using evidence-based tools and practices, support members of the IHFSP team in their role as educators. Maintain high standards of practice such that the needs of families are met and program requirements are met with ongoing satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree (in early childhood, adult education, Family Studies or other BA in closely related field)
  • Experience with data collection and analysis
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • National PAT certification as a parent educator.
  • Experience in using computers and various computer programs.
  • Supervision experience helpful.
  • Initiate and/or administer the PAT program following national and state PAT requirements and guidelines.
  • Supervise daily operations of Parent Educators and staff.
  • Engage community leaders in the formation of a PAT community council.
  • Interview and hire high quality parent educators.
  • Participate in the Parents as Teachers Implementation Institute including becoming certified as a parent educator.
  • Develop a Program Implementation Plan.
  • Provide orientation for new parent educators.
  • Build relationships with community resources for program and staff.
  • Coordinate with other agencies for cooperative services to families with identified high needs.
  • Conduct local, state and national annual evaluations.
  • Become certified in all required developmental screenings and assessments.
  • Support the philosophy and mission of the organization.
  • Support the philosophy and mission of Parents as Teachers.
  • Bachelor of Family Studies or other BA in closely related field
  • Able to pass local and federal background checks
  • Experience working with data and providing analysis
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required
  • Experience with case management
  • Experience with grant writing, compliance, and reporting
  • Experience working with infants, toddlers, and/or preschool children
  • Masters degree in Human Development, Psychology, or related field preferred

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Parents as Teachers Program Compliance and General Support
  • Attend Parents as Teachers monthly supervisor meetings and communicate relevant information to program director
  • Plan for and lead weekly IHFSP team meetings
  • Assess Parent Educator professional development needs and coordinate with program director to fulfill those needs
  • Conduct weekly individual meetings with all Parent Educators for records review, program quality compliance, individual training, or other goal completion as needed
  • Plan, carry out, and record a minimum of 9 Group Connection activities during the program year
  • Supervise program staff

Documentation of Services and Record-Keeping

  • Prepare and present data relevant to PAT records and compliance to CEO and stakeholders as necessary
  • Review regularly all documented interactions, services provided, family needs, community engagement, etc. using required tools and systems for all IHFSP families.
  • Review goals set and progress made, as documented by IHFSP staff for ongoing compliance
  • As needed, work with Family and Community Engagement Specialist to coordinate support to families as identified by IHFSP Parent Educators or other program staff.
  • Collaborate with Parent Educators to determine the level of need and caseload weight of individual families.
  • Review records for completion of all necessary developmental screening, documentation, and follow-up services and work with Parent Educators and Specialist to document additional services received.

Support and enhance the work of the organization

  • Assist other organization programs with student/family recruitment and enrollment activities.
  • As needed, represent the organization at local community meetings and/or events.
  • Participate in the ongoing evaluation of the school’s programs and coordinate with the program director to set program goals for ongoing improvement.
  • Participate in the program and school-wide events.
  • Comply with all district polices, rules and regulations.

Physical Requirement/Environment Conditions:

  • Requires the ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods.
  • Occasionally requires the ability to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
  • Occasionally requires the ability to stoop, kneel, crawl, bend, turn and reach.
  • Requires the ability to climb and balance.
  • Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environments.
  • Requires the ability to travel.
  • Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.

General Responsibility:

  • Serve at least six families per year and perform a minimum of twelve home visits per month.
  • Maintain certification.
  • Develop additional services as needs are recognized in the community.
  • Ensure all activities conform to district and program guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
  • React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
  • Appropriately operate all equipment related to specific job duties.
  • Conduct a minimum of four parent group meetings per year.
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of the end-of-year reports; mid-year reports and other such reports and program information as the State Board shall determine.
  • Lead in the selection process of all new parent educators, recommend which in-services the PAT staff should attend and coordinate with the state PAT director as necessary.
  • Conduct staff meetings regularly and provide ongoing training for staff; provide opportunities for professional development for staff as required by national standards.
  • Conduct one-on-one reflective supervision with staff as needed, but at least quarterly.
  • Develop a filing system for organized record keeping.
  • Organize PAT parent handouts and personal visit materials.
  • Review records on a regular basis.
  • Conduct local, state and national annual evaluations.
  • Adhere to all district health and safety policies.
  • Perform other duties as deemed necessary.

Professional and Personal Characteristics

  • Demonstrate the ability and willingness to work with parents, family members, community agencies, school staff, etc.
  • Advocate for child abuse prevention and serve as a mandatory reporter.
  • Maintain current certification in Pediatric First Aid and Infant/Child/Adult CPR.
  • Attend and participate in training sessions and professional development.
  • Demonstrate the ability to treat colleagues, parents, and students with respect and honest communication.
  • Demonstrate professional reflective practices for personal improvement.
