Part-Time Grant Writer

About the Role 


United Way of Utah County is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Grant Writer to support fundraising and program sustainability through compelling writing and effective grant management. Reporting to the Senior Director of Resource Development, this position plays a critical role in securing funding that supports local families and strengthens community resources. 


The ideal candidate has direct experience writing successful grants, is highly organized, and can work collaboratively across teams. They should be comfortable turning complex programs and community challenges into simple, persuasive narratives. In addition to writing, this role supports grant-related administrative tasks, including tracking deadlines, maintaining records, and navigating shifting timelines and priorities. 


Time Commitment & Location 


20 hours per week 

Must work in person at our Provo office at least once a week during regular business hours (M–F, 8 AM–5 PM; flexible schedule within this window) 

Remote work and flexible hours other days is possible 

Occasional support for meetings or events outside regular hours may be requested 


Key Responsibilities 


Grant Writing & Administration 


Research and write grant proposals, reports, and funder communications 

Summarize complex programs and community issues into clear, compelling narratives 

Create and maintain internal summaries for each program to support future applications 

Track deadlines and deliverables using project management tools 

Maintain organized records and digital files for all grants and related documents 

Support preparation of materials and documentation for funding meetings 

Adapt to shifting timelines and priorities; proactively manage grant progress despite busy stakeholder schedules 

Collaboration & Communication 


Work closely with: 


Senior Directors to understand program visions, funding needs, and outcomes  

Program Team Leads as needed for program data, success stories, and outcome tracking 


Finance Manager and Senior Director of Collective Impact Strategy to compile budgets and financial documentation for grant submissions 

Ensure CRM and internal systems are updated with grant statuses, deadlines, and key interactions 


Required Qualifications 


Proven experience writing and submitting successful grant proposals 

Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills 

Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and moving deadlines 

Comfort working across departments and with leaders who have limited availability 

Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) and SharePoint is a plus 

Self-starter with a passion for nonprofit work and United Way’s mission 

Compensation: $25–30/hour, depending on experience
