JOB OVERVIEW:

The Utah Symphony | Utah Opera (USUO) Payroll and Account Analyst serves an important role in ensuring our employees are compensated correctly, efficiently, and promptly while simultaneous providing a high level of service and support to our Finance Department. Under the direction of the Controller, this individual will exhibit high standards of service and professionalism through a calm and confident demeanor. This employee must have a discerning and accurate attention to detail as they handle specifics such as internal and external reconciliations and verifications of USUO general ledger codes. This individual must be adept at regularly collaborating with all members of the Finance Department and Human Resources through proactive communication. The Payroll and Account Analyst handles confidential information, including HIPPA and other personal data, and thus must be capable of promptly and properly securing records and conversations with discrete, sensitive, and efficient care.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Payroll:

  • Prepare and complete all bi-weekly payroll data for USUO Orchestra, full-time and part-time staff (both non-exempt and exempt), and unionized contract workers.
  • Properly process payable reimbursements, payroll deductions, and garnishments when applicable.
  • Verify GL coding and approvals obtained.
  • Make benefit changes/updates in accounting system.
  • Prepare and file monthly union dues.
  • Prepare State and Federal tax reports.
  • Responsible for W-2 processing.
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide high-quality internal support.
  • Process, file, store, and organize relevant employee files.

Accounting Department Analysis and Support:

  • Perform various journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Research, analyze, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Resolve uncashed payroll check payments.
  • Assist with annual audits.
  • Support management through ad hoc data collecting, reporting, and analysis.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.

PREQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree or comparable professional experience.
  • Experience in payroll processing.
  • Experience in general journal entry and reconciliation.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Strong Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables, etc.).
  • Knowledge of MS Great Plains Dynamics a plus.
  • Ability to interact with employees to resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle numerous details, deadlines, and requests.
  • Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively with the team and across functions.
  • Ability to discretely and tactfully handle and secure confidential information.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of remaining stationary and working on a computer.
  • Able to move equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.

SALARY:

Pay begins at $26/hour, plus excellent benefits.
