Restoring Ancestral Winds, Inc.’s (RAWI) Purpose

Restoring Ancestral Winds, Inc.’s (RAWI) is a Tribal sexual assault (SA) and domestic violence (DV) coalition working to support advocates and survivors in Utah since 2014. Our purpose is to end violence in Native communities. RAWI is a growing nonprofit who provide policy and advocacy, training, and technical assistance to tribes located in the Great Basin. Our work is led by Indigenous values and decolonizing practices linked to anti-oppression.  RAWI supports healing in Indigenous communities. We honor traditional cultural values and advocate for healthy relationships; educate our communities on issues surrounding stalking, domestic, sexual, dating and family violence; and collaborate with stakeholders.


JOB DESCRIPTION 

Position Summary


Restoring Ancestral Winds, Inc. is growing. The Prevention Education Program Coordinator will develop and coordinate a comprehensive program dedicated to preventing sexual violence and promoting healthy relationships among Native men and boys. This role involves designing culturally relevant educational strategies, facilitating community engagement, and collaborating with local stakeholders to create a supportive and informed environment.


Key Responsibilities

Program Development and Implementation

  • Design, implement, and evaluate rape prevention education programs tailored for Native men and boys.
  • Develop culturally appropriate curricula and materials that address unique community needs and perspectives.
  • Ensure program content respects and incorporates traditional values and practices.

Community Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Native communities, leaders, and organizations.
  • Conduct outreach to increase program participation and foster trust within the community.
  • Organize and facilitate workshops, seminars, and events to promote program goals.

Collaboration and Partnership

  • Partner with local schools, community centers, and tribal organizations to expand program reach.
  • Collaborate with other professionals, such as counselors, social workers, and educators, to align efforts and resources.
  • Advocate for the program within and outside the community to garner support and resources.

Training and Capacity Building

  • Train program staff, volunteers, and community leaders on effective prevention strategies and cultural competency.
  • Provide ongoing support and professional development to ensure staff effectiveness and program quality.

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Develop and implement evaluation tools to assess program impact and effectiveness.
  • Collect and analyze data to inform program improvements and report outcomes to stakeholders.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations for funding agencies and community partners.

Administrative Duties:

  • Manage program budget, including tracking expenses and preparing financial reports.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, grant requirements, and legal regulations.
  • Handle administrative tasks such as scheduling, correspondence, and record-keeping.

 

QUALIFICATIONS


Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Public Health, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

 

Experience & Skills:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in program management, with a focus on sexual violence prevention or related fields. Experience working with Native communities is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of culturally relevant practices and issues affecting Native men and boys.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in using data management and reporting tools.
  • Cultural Competency: Demonstrated ability to work sensitively and effectively with Native communities, respecting their traditions and values.


Preferred Attributes:

  • Language Skills: Knowledge of Native languages is a plus.
  • Community Connections: Established relationships with Native community leaders and organizations.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications in sexual violence prevention or related fields.


Other Requirements:

  • Self-motivated, able to work well in a diverse team environment, and willing to actively contribute to creating a positive work culture.
  • Ability to work some weekends, late nights, holidays and special event hours.
  • Must have completed or be able to complete 40 hours of Victim Advocacy Training provided by a Tribal or State Domestic Violence and/or Sexual Assault Coalition. If not completed prior to hiring this requirement may be met by completing the earliest training available after hiring.

Ability to adhere to Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) confidentiality provisions.

  • Understanding and willingness to support the RAWI purpose to end violence in Native communities.


Preference will be given for the following qualifications:

  • Experience working in Native American communities.
  • Understanding the intersections of oppression as it perpetuates a culture of violence and creates barriers to accessing sexual violence response services.
  • Experience addressing systematic oppression and the needs of marginalized and underserved populations (Native American tribes and LGBTQ+/Two-Spirit) and the barriers they encounter in accessing safety and support.
  • Demonstrated awareness of the impact of trauma on individuals, organizations, and communities.


Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment and may include occasional local, regional and national travel. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machine, and filing cabinets.


Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and talk. The employee frequently is required to sit for extended periods.


Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Initial expected work hours will be from 8am-5pm Monday through Friday. Evening and weekend hours may be required on occasion. The Prevention Education Program Coordinator will work with the Executive Director and Operations Manager to periodically assess scheduling needs to provide excellent financial accountability. Some flexibility in hours is allowed with Executive Director’s approval, but the employee must be available to work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status.


Travel

This position may require travel to participate in trainings held out of state. Employees must have access to reliable transportation for travel within Utah.

  • Must have a valid Utah driver’s license and valid auto insurance.
  • Must have ability to travel statewide and out-of-state as needed.
  • Flexibility in scheduling, including occasional overnight stays and extended days.


WAGES AND BENEFITS

The Prevention Education Program Coordinator is a full-time, non-exempt, position and is supervised by the Executive Director.
