Retention Services Specialist

Utah Foster Care (UFC) is seeking a full-time Retention Services Specialist to serve in the Salt Lake Valley Region (Salt Lake and Tooele Counties) based out of the UFC Murray office. The successful candidate oversees UFC services in the region centered on supporting foster parents and their capacity to care for children in foster care with their associated mental, behavioral, and emotional issues.


Retention Specialist Responsibilities:


· In collaboration with DCFS Regional Administration, create and implement an annual Regional Retention Plan targeting specific retention needs.

· Coordinate ongoing “Cluster” peer support groups throughout the region, including identifying, training, and supporting Cluster Facilitators.

· Oversee Wishing Well requests from the region, giving initial approval to appropriate requests and forwarding them to the Director of Retention.

· Assist in the content creation of a statewide semi-monthly newsletter for foster parents with content relevant to the Southwest Region edition.

· In collaboration with the Director of Retention and Development Team, develop and cultivate partnerships with individuals, businesses, churches, civic organizations, etc., promoting support for foster families via collection and distribution of in-kind donations, discounts, activities, volunteer activities, etc.

· Be prepared to take advantage of additional opportunities to provide support for foster families and the children they care for as those opportunities arise.

  • Assist in the content creation of a statewide semi-monthly newsletter for foster parents with content relevant to the Salt Lake & Tooele Region edition.

· Works closely with the Volunteer Coordinator to support the engagement of community volunteers.

· Works closely with mentor and clinical programs. Helping support the programs and foster families.

· Data input and management across multiple platforms. 

· Other duties as assigned.



Essential Knowledge & Skills


· Strong interpersonal, presentation, and verbal communication skills

· Comfortable using technology and learning new technological platforms; familiarity with social media is a must.

· Exceptional time management and organizational skills: attention to detail is crucial, good problem-solving skills, able to meet deadlines

· Collaborative work style with management, peers, and others: able to admit and rectify mistakes as they happen, flexible to change, in keeping with the Leadership & Self-Deception corporate culture.

· Excelled writing, proofreading, and editing skills.


Job Qualifications & Requirements:


· Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services related field or equivalent experience.

· Experience with non-profit or government child welfare agencies including experience or knowledge of Utah’s foster care system preferred.

· If the applicant is a past or current foster parent, they must be in good standing with DCFS.

· Requires some evening/weekend hours, and travel across a geographically large area. 

· Valid Driver’s License & reliable vehicle required 

· Must be able to lift 20 lbs.
