Ride Maintenance Technician

Admin/Operations

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

Performs skilled mechanical and technical maintenance on train locomotives, passenger coaches, rail systems, and carousel components to ensure continuous, safe, and efficient operation. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance of engines, drivetrains, braking systems, electrical controls, and structural components. Ensures compliance with state ride safety inspections and internal maintenance protocols. Maintains accurate documentation of service logs, part inventories, and mechanical assessments. Provides technical guidance and on-the-job training to ride operators regarding safe operation, routine troubleshooting, and procedural adherence. Also assists with broader facility maintenance tasks as assigned, including but not limited to fleet vehicle and cart maintenance.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

Reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Meet daily with Rides Maintenance Foreman to review and receive job assignments.

Maintain ongoing operation of carousal train, track, signals and train depot by strictly adhering to a check list of daily, weekly, monthly and annual scheduled maintenance.

Maintain grounds along right-of-way to include keeping area well groomed and free of debris which may cause unsafe operating or unsightly conditions.

Maintain detailed records of maintenance and repairs, fuel used, outside services used, items purchased, etc.

Follows the ride maintenance double check procedures.

Assist with training of train operators to ensure a well-timed and safe ride for guests.

Performs other Facilities maintenance projects throughout the Zoo as assigned.

Keep hourly/weekly logs of maintenance projects and tasks and use a work order management system to track and log work notes.

Performs Ice and Snow removal and as part of the “On call” rotation.


QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

Knowledge and skills in gas engine repairs.

Knowledge and skills in small equipment repairs.

Knowledge and skills in brakes and minor electrical repairs.

Knowledge and skills in minor building maintenance areas.

Ability to work in a team, get along with staff and guests.

Ability to work independently without instruction.

Must have a valid Utah driver license.

Knowledge and skills with use of PCs, Word and Excel software, and able to use software to track and schedule tasks in a work order system.

Possess Trade school diploma or High school diploma/ GED with 2 year of related work experience.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION 

  • Utah’s Hogle Zoo is a drug-free workplace. All employees are subject to random drug testing.
  • Provide a negative TB test prior to hire date and maintain TB testing through course of employment
  • A valid driver’s license is required.


WORK ENVIRONMENT                                                                      

The position involves tasks requiring a variety of moderately heavy physical activities which generally involve muscular strain. Requires activities related to walking, standing, bending, stooping, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, and seeing. Common eye, hand, and finger dexterity are required to perform essential functions. Exposure to cleaning, and sanitation chemicals heat, cold, noise, dust, and fumes. Requires lifting of up to 80 lbs.
