Sageland Collaborative Program Manager

Program/Project Management

Sageland Collaborative

Sageland Collaborative’s mission is to provide science-based strategies for wildlife and land conservation. We focus on increasing biodiversity and populations of special-status species; conserving wildlife pathways; and restoring habitat. We work toward these goals by bringing science into on-the-ground action, fostering collaborations, and working with the entire community. The Sageland Collaborative team consists of dedicated and skilled scientists, project managers, and communications specialists. Sageland Collaborative’s Fence Restoration Program

For thousands of years, elk, deer, pronghorn, and other wildlife have traveled over large swaths of the American West to access the resources they need to survive. These movements have been stressed by drought and human development. The hundreds of thousands of miles of fencing across the West also pose a threat to wildlife movement. Small-scale fencing retrofits or removals in priority areas can bring large-scale benefits for both wildlife and the people that work on these lands. By combining wildlife movement datasets (i.e., Wildlife Tracker from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources’ Migration Initiative) with community-gathered mapping data, our team can pinpoint where wildlife-friendly fencing will improve wildlife movement and herd health.

Sageland Collaborative’s Fence Restoration Program supports implementation of wildlife-friendly fence projects. We work with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, Bureau of Land Management, Utah Migration Initiative, Natural Resources Conservation Service, non-profits, private landowners, and more to improve the health of wildlife populations, while also supporting working lands. By bringing science into action, we can quilt a fractured landscape back together.
