Peace House Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending interpersonal violence, including sexual assault and abuse, in the community through prevention education, outreach, support services and safe housing.

JOB SUMMARY        

This role’s primary function is to provide a range of direct services to survivors of sexual violence.  The Sexual Assault Services Specialist is the lead responder, and coordinator, of our Hospital Response Advocacy Program and plays a critical role in recruiting, training and supporting our staff/volunteer Hospital Crisis Response Team. Other direct services include case management, navigation of criminal and civil law systems, co-facilitation of support groups, and referrals to ongoing, community resources.

This role was intentionally developed in 2020 to strengthen the response to sexual assault in Summit & Wasatch counties and to improve access to supports for survivors. Duties therefore include some outreach activities to promote awareness of available services and working with the Director of Support Services to build strategic partnerships.

This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position averaging 40 hours per week. The Sexual Assault Services Specialist will report directly to the Director of Support Services with additional supports provided by the Case Management Coordinator on client-related matters.


JOB TYPE: Full-Time  PAY: $22.00-$24.00 plus On-call Stipend plus Generous Benefits


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead responder on calls to support survivors during forensic exams as part of a 24/7 rotational HRT team (Hospital Response Team).

Responsible for effective day-to-day coordination of 24/7 HRT calendar and maintenance of coverage.

Assists Volunteer Coordinator to recruit, train and support HRT volunteers.

Facilitate monthly HRT training/debrief meeting.

Provide sexual assault case management to a select number of clients.

Help facilitate regular support groups for rape and sexual assault victims.

Play an active role in the assessment of all Peace House clients for immediate support needs and potential specialist services.

Develops methods, approaches, and procedures to meet survivor needs, program requirements, and Rape Crisis Center Standards.

Maintain and strengthen partnerships with law enforcement agencies, and statewide rape crisis programs.

Promote awareness of Sexual Assault Services at Peace House through community outreach, training, and collaboration

Maintains and reviews required documentation and data collection.

Follows state and federal laws on victim confidentiality.

Attend Peace House All-Staff monthly meetings, weekly team meetings, staffing meetings for clients and training courses as directed.

Complete other tasks as assigned by the Director of Support Services or Executive Director in a timely manner


Required Qualifications / Skills

  • Experienced in DV/SA advocacy field and/or extensive work in the social services field.
  • Ideally already trained as a Sexual Assault Counsellor in accordance with Utah’s Confidential Communications Act and experienced at responding to forensic exams.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Understands and can apply principles of Trauma Informed Care.
  • Creative, enthusiastic and flexible—open to change and learning.
  • Solution-focused and strengths based.
  • Team player with an ability to work with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Sensitive to diversity and the unique challenges dealing with vulnerable populations
  • Strong administrative skills, ability to delegate and make decisions.
  • Computer literate.
  • Completes assignments in a timely manner.
  • Ability to stay task-focused and work independently, in addition to working collaboratively within a supportive team.
  • Able to pass a background check as required for state licensing


Preferred Qualifications


  • Bilingual – Spanish and English speaking.
  • Training and/or experience in case management
  • Ability to facilitate groups.
  • Current First Aid and CPR – or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • Confident public speaker.
  • Experience creating and delivering training.


PAY AND BENEFITS:

 

Pay: $22.00+ Depending on Experience plus an On-Call hourly Stipend

Work Environment 

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Peace House utilizes databases such as Apricot, Salsa and other state reporting portals to track, document and monitor staff, volunteers and program data.

 

Physical Demands

Able to stand for periods of time; attend meetings offsite; able to lift up to 20 pounds
