Job Summary:

Ski and Snowboard Instructors at the National Ability Center have the primary role of facilitating on-snow experiences for people with disabilities. Upon completion of mandatory training, instructors will be appropriately paired with participants to deliver safe, fun, and effective programming. Our Ski & Snowboard program operates out of the McGrath Mountain Center located at the base of Park City Mountain in Park City, Utah. Ski and snowboard operations run every day during the winter snow season in a variety of weather conditions, including weekends and holidays. This position requires a consistent schedule with routine weekend and holiday work. This position is not eligible for remote work. It is a seasonal position, paid hourly, depending on experience and certification level.


Typical Duties:

  • Provides individual, family, and/or group instruction to a variety of skill levels utilizing adaptive techniques, strategies, and equipment as necessary.
  • Upholds safety/risk management protocols in a caring and fun environment for participants, volunteers, and staff.
  • Ensures individuals are utilizing equipment or activities appropriate to their needs, in a safe and effective manner.
  • Completes required assessment and documentation after completion of lessons.
  • Serves as a positive representative and ambassador of National Ability Center programs, events, and activities in our community.
  • Commits to continuing education in the adaptive field utilizing internal and external resources to ensure our programs promote growth, empowerment, and improvement.
  • Communicates clearly, honestly, and respectfully with all staff, participants, parents, volunteers, management, and co-workers.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with participants, families, and community partners; addresses participant concerns and ensures high levels of customer satisfaction and necessary support for every participant.                                                                           


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be able to demonstrate intermediate to advanced skiing and/or riding skills.
  • Must pass pre-employment background check.
  • Must be able to attend mandatory training sessions that begin late November.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • PSIA or AASI certification, or experience teaching ski and/or snowboard lessons.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Therapeutic Recreation, Special Education, Outdoor Education, Recreation Management, or other related field.
  • Experience instructing and/or facilitating recreation programs and adventure sports for people with disabilities.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.

  • Knowledge of a variety of disabilities and ability to communicate effectively and connect with participants and their families.
  • Demonstrated history of responsibility, dependability, and maturity.
  • Ability to demonstrate patience and provide concise and effective feedback.
  • Strong communication skills & timely response with correspondence.
  • Ability to be flexible, creative, and adaptable to situations and assignments.
  • Ability to support program needs with solution-oriented initiative.
  • Ability to positively receive and provide feedback and job coaching for development of self and others.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow all policies and procedures with the utmost emphasis on prioritizing risk management and safety at all times.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work productively and collaboratively within a team.
  • Commitment to a positive, fun, and team-oriented working environment while promoting the NAC Values.


Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to deliver professional snow-sport instruction in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme weather, for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to safely lift adaptive equipment up to 50 lbs. in and out of vehicle trailer and storage areas.
  • This position requires work on weekends and holidays.
