Reports to: STEM Coordinator
Overview: Craft Lake City’s mission is to educate, promote, and inspire local artisans while elevating Utah’s creative culture through science, technology, and art. At the Craft Lake City DIY Festival, the GFiber STEM Building showcases local tinkerers and leading science and engineering organizations that creatively blend technology and the arts.
The STEM Assistant works closely with the STEM Coordinator in the weeks leading up to and during the DIY Festival. This role involves supporting festival planning, assisting with STEM exhibitor load-in and load-out, engaging with the public, helping with hands-on activities, and providing on-site support to exhibitors—along with other duties as assigned.
This is a seasonal contract position for the DIY Festival taking place August 8–10, 2025. The STEM Assistant must be available during all festival hours on those dates and should be able to commit to 5–10 hours per week in the lead-up to the event, with increasing involvement as the festival approaches.
Qualifications:
- Strong communication skills
- Passion for STEM and enthusiasm for sharing it with others
- Enjoys working with children and families
- Calm under pressure with solid stress management abilities
- Able to interact professionally with festival exhibitors, patrons, and guests
- Excellent listener and able to take direction well
- Flexible and adaptable team player willing to support others as needed
- Quick thinker with strong problem-solving skills, especially in a fast-paced event environment
- Reliable and punctual
- Collaborative mindset with a strong sense of teamwork
- Familiarity with Google Workspace (formerly G Suite)
Requirements:
- Must attend most or all staff meetings and production training sessions
- Ability to commit 5–10 hours per week leading up to the DIY Festival
- Must be available and on-site for the DIY Festival from August 6–10, 2025
