Work at the beautiful garden and enjoy making a positive impact in the lives of children in kindergarten – 7th grade. Lead STEAM-based summer camps that teach kids about plants and the natural world through hands-on activities, exciting experiments, creative art projects, fun interactions with their peers, outdoor explorations, and more.

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead, teach, and supervise campers during their time at RBGA to ensure a successful camp experience.
    1. Supervise campers at all times.
    2. Apply basic youth development principles such as relationship development, involvement, and youth empowerment while working with campers.
    3. Follow and enforce all safety guidelines.
  2. Create and develop activities for campers that follow RBGA’s mission.
    1. Prep and teach all camp activities, including experiments, crafts, games, and more.
    2. Actively participate in all program duties as assigned.
    3. Modify activities as needed based on campers’ interests and abilities.
    4. Review camp curriculum and provide constructive feedback.
  3. Maintain high standards of health and safety for campers
    1. Provide care for each camper under your supervision.
    2. Be alert to campers’ needs and assist with personal or health related problems; discuss with camp director when appropriate.
    3. Help monitor supplies, equipment, and facilities to ensure proper utilization, care, and maintenance.
  4. Be a role model to campers in your attitude and behavior.
    1. Set a good example for campers, including cleanliness, punctuality, personal language, appearance, health habits, sportsmanship, and manners.
  5. Represent RBGA when interacting with parents, caregivers, or community partners.
    1. Provide parents with appropriate feedback and information as needed for their campers to have a successful camp experience.
    2. Help relay pertinent camper information to community partners.
    3. Provide extraordinary guest service to all campers, parents, caregivers, and RBGA colleagues.
  6. Assist with other activities, programs, and seasonal events as needed by performing other relevant duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Horticulture, Environmental Studies, or related area preferred. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required. 

Preferences:

  • An interest in plants demonstrated either by education or previous employment.
  • Experience working or teaching in an outdoor setting
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Previous experience working with children
  • Understanding of various teaching methods and the ability to adjust activities to include the interests and abilities of various ages and groups of campers
  • Excellent classroom management skills
  • Ability to think creatively and respond calmly and quickly in stressful situations
  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, and patience
  • Dependable and punctual
  • Ability to accept supervision and guidance
  • Must be flexible and able to work both independently and as part of a team
