Therapeutic Recreation Technician

Education/Training Program/Project Management

The mission of Neighborhood House is to enrich, empower and educate children and adults through quality, affordable preschool programs, day care services and comprehensive support services. As a Therapeutic Recreational Technician, you will be supporting our mission through providing enrichment to our aging and disabled adults in a fun, familial and recreational environment. In this position you will work with the Activity & Program manager to plan and execute daily activities for our clients. The Therapeutic Recreational Technician will also lead and assist in daily activities with larger groups of clients, relating to all in a positive manner, regardless of age or functional ability. As a TRT you will also be responsible for assisting with direct client care needs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist CTRS with planning monthly activities.
  • Prepare, lead and clean up from daily activities and intergenerational activities.
  • Assist CTRS in assessments of clients and documentation.
  • Maintaining activity supply closet and assisting in ordering of program supplies.
  • Attend planning meetings as needed.
  • Maintain consistent interaction with aging and disabled adults, encouraging client engagement in all activities.
  • Think and work independently and with direction and communicate with staff members in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
  • Track and chart daily & weekly progress
  • Transport clients to/from facility on outings when needed.
  • Assist clients with toileting, personal hygiene, dressing, feeding, and other ADL’s as needed for both male and female clients.
  • Represent professionalism, and maturity
  • Ensure client safety and promote client engagement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Maintain a valid Utah TRT License
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • First-Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Valid Utah Driver’s License
  • Obtain a Food Handler’s Permit
  • Maintain Confidentiality
  • Follow all licensing rules and regulations
  • Pass Licensing Background Check and MVR check
  • Pass a drug test
  • COVID Vaccinated
  • Must speak, read and write English Fluently.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, walk, stand, and bend

Benefits:

Health, Vision, Dental benefits are available after 60 days. Employees are eligible for paid time off after 90-days, and eligibility for enrollment in 401(k) retirement plan is available after one year of full-time employment.

Lunch is provided, Free Day-care for one eligible child or adult. At point of hire, candidates are required to provide a TB test (if indicated by the 2019 Department of Health policy on TB screening), Food Handlers permit, and First Aid/CPR certification. New employees must also provide a clean background check (initially at their own cost) and pass a drug test. Drug tests may be given randomly during employment at Neighborhood House.  At 30-days a physical exam (work release, signed by a physician) is required.
