SEXUAL ASSAULT ADVOCACY SPECIALIST - TOOELE COUNTY JOB DESCRIPTION

The mission of the Rape Recovery Center is to support and empower survivors and victims of sexual violence and educate the community about the cause, impact, and prevention of sexual violence. JOB OVERVIEW

The Sexual Assault Advocacy Specialist advances the mission of the Rape Recovery Center to empower primary and secondary survivors of sexual violence through advocacy, crisis intervention, case management, and facilitating support groups. The SA Advocacy Specialist will work to provide advocacy services to survivors of sexual violence in Tooele County. They provide quality and accessible services that meet the Utah Standards of Care for Rape Crisis Centers. The SA Advocacy Specialist assists survivors/victims in defining needs, exploring options, and advocating for their rights to be respected. The SA Advocacy Specialist assists with the day-to-day operations of the advocacy program in Tooele County, outreach/prevention needs and provides direct services as required. The SA Advocacy Specialist provides training to interns and volunteers on an as needed basis. This position is responsible for assisting with reviewing, evaluating, and making program adjustments as part of the continuous quality improvement of the program.

The position is a full-time, benefited, 40-hour per week position. The hourly rate is $23.50-$24.50 (based on experience) and follows a Monday-to-Friday schedule. Applicants from historically excluded communities are encouraged to apply.

REPORTS TO: Advocacy Director

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

● Ensure a client's trajectory through services is accessible and consistent, identify service issues, and address gaps to meet the Utah Standards of Care for Rape Crisis Centers.

● Provide advocacy and crisis intervention services to primary and secondary survivors of sexual violence.

● Provide case management and advocacy for a 15-18 client caseload per week.

● Provide advocacy on a walk-in and appointment basis at least twice weekly during Monday to Friday operation hours at RRC locations and/or offsite as needed.

● Orient survivors to their constitutional and statutory rights and assist survivors in securing those rights.

● Provide services subject to confidential communication requirements in the Utah Confidential Communication Act, Utah Code 77-38-202.

● Provide consultation, case management, and accompaniment to clients regarding sexual violence-related immigration, law enforcement, and court services in and outside the agency.

● Maintain and assure quality, accuracy, and confidentiality of records and all data is recorded within 24 hours.

● Facilitate 1-2 weekly support groups in English and Spanish in the evenings.

● Implement surveys and assessment tools for clients for individual and RRC service evaluation.

● Collaborate with other RRC staff and community advocates to ensure survivors receive

appropriate services.

● Respond to community inquiries, external requests, and questions regarding services.

● Connect with external organizations and partners for resource sharing, information, program

development and service outreach.

● Provide survivors support, and education in connecting with resources, and understanding the investigation process.

● Participate in the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) process by coordinating client services with fellow staff and multidisciplinary team members; including acting as a liaison between survivors and law enforcement, medical and mental health providers, and prosecutors.

● Lead the Tooele County SART meetings, including scheduling, creating agendas for monthly meetings, coordinating and conducting training, and performing all other related duties as needed.

● Assist with outreach/prevention events, workshops and/or training as needed.

● Assist the Advocacy Director with developing, administering, and maintaining program grants, data reports, and client surveys.

● Participate in scheduled advocacy, agency meetings, and training seminars as directed.

● Assist with coverage at the front desk and the RRC helplines as needed and assigned.

● Represent the Rape Recovery Center with a professional image and manner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

● Bachelor’s degree in a related field OR 3 years of experience in crisis intervention services OR an equivalent combination of practical and academic experience (preference is given to those holding an SSW license or in the process of obtaining it

● Proficient in Microsoft and Google Suites or proven track record of learning new software with little to no formal instruction

● Proven track record of balancing multiple responsibilities, organization, and detail-oriented

● Outstanding communication, including verbal, written, crisis intervention, and de-escalation skills

● Bilingual- verbal, written, and spoken proficiency in English and Spanish

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

● Experience working with survivors and victims of crime

● Strong understanding of social justice

● Understanding of micro, mezzo, and macro systems and their impact on survivors.

● Proven experience with case management, crisis advocacy, and working with vulnerable populations (LGBTQI+, Unhoused, Pacific Islanders, American Indian/Native American, undocumented immigrants)

● Demonstrated knowledge of Utah Standards of Care for Rape Crisis Programs and feminist multicultural approach.

● Fluency in spoken and written English and Spanish.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT OFFER

● The employee must complete all new hire paperwork by the end of the day on the first workday.

● The employee must complete a criminal background check.

○ The operations team will provide instructions on obtaining the background check.

○ Part of this process requires uploading a state-issued ID and scheduling an appointment with the Department of Public Safety to process physical fingerprints.

○ Please note a 2-3 week turnaround time as fingerprint appointments (subject to COVID safety protocols as determined by DPS) are not immediately available.

○ Employees/Staff Members of the RRC can only be alone with clients once the background check is received and reviewed for risk.

● The employee must obtain a 40-hour crisis counselor certification and submit it within 120 days.

● The employee agrees to a probationary period of 90 days from the first day of working in the new position. After 90 days, the employee will receive a detailed evaluation of their progress.

● Employees must comply with the flu and COVID-19 vaccination policy.

● The employee must be able and willing to work in Tooele County and at the Company's Salt Lake County office as required.
