About the Role

Are you a creative storyteller with an eye for design and a passion for using your skills to make a difference? Utah Foster Care (UFC) is looking for a Visual Communications Specialist to help us tell the stories of foster care and connect with communities across Utah.
The Visual Communications Specialist will play an important role in creating engaging, thoughtful, and visually compelling content that supports Utah Foster Care’s mission. This position will lead graphic design and video editing projects, create and publish social media content, and provide creative support for events, publications, campaigns, and other organizational communications.
The ideal candidate is a creative thinker with excellent design skills, strong written and interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. We are looking for someone who can take a concept or idea and turn it into polished, engaging content while managing multiple projects and deadlines.


Key Responsibilities

Graphic Design

• Create visually engaging graphics and digital content for social media, campaigns, events, publications, presentations, and other communication needs.
• Maintain consistency with Utah Foster Care’s brand, visual identity, and messaging.
• Design layouts and visual elements for Utah Foster Care’s brand, visual identity, and messaging.
• Design layouts and visual elements for Utah Foster Care’s bi-monthly online magazine, Foster Roster.
• Collaborate with members of the Communications team and staff throughout the organization to develop creative solutions for a variety of projects.
• Help develop visual concepts and creative materials that effectively communicate complex or sensitive topics related to foster care.

Visual Production & Editing

• Edit existing raw video footage into engaging 30-second to 5-minute videos for social media, websites, campaigns, events, and other communication needs.
• Add graphics, captions, music, transitions, and other elements to create polished and accessible video content.
• Organize and maintain video assets and files
• Occasionally record video content at Utah Foster Care events and other activities, approximately 2-4 times per year as needed.
• Collaborate with staff to identify opportunities for compelling visual storytelling.
Social Media
• Create graphics, captions, and video content for Utah Foster Care’s social media channels
• Schedule and publish social media content in coordination with the Communication team’s content strategy and calendar.
• Adapt content appropriately for different social media platforms and audiences.
Event & Publication Support
• Create Eventbrite pages for public-facing UFC events, and update as needed
• Support the production of UFC’s bi-monthly online magazine through design and layout
• Provide creative and communications support for special projects, campaigns, events, and organizational initiatives as needed


Qualifications & Skills

• At least 2-3 years of professional experience in graphic design and video editing required
• Professional experience using Canva required
• Familiarity with Adobe Premiere Pro or other professional video-editing software preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, communications, marketing, visual communications, or related field preferred
• Strong graphic design skills and a well-developed eye for visual composition, typography, layout, and branding
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
