ABOUT MAKE-A-WISH UTAH

POSITION OVERVIEW

Orchestrates the experience of families and children visiting A Wishing Place (AWP) to declare a wish, receive a wish, or participate in a wish family activity; and coordinates the volunteer activities surrounding these events so that wish granting volunteers are freed from logistical concerns to concentrate on their own roles in the wish granting process.

• Trains wish granting volunteers to use A Wishing Place materials and processes effectively in eliciting the child’s personal wish.

• Acts as a point of contact for families and volunteers before and during wish presentation activities to ensure that each child’s experience is well-structured, celebratory, and fun for all.

• Evaluates wish granting activities to determine where additional volunteer training is needed.

• Identifies volunteers who are able to lead and mentor others effectively.

• Ensures that high standards for wish granting activities are consistently upheld.

• Be present at family events and volunteer training as requested.

• Acts as wish granter for wish families who live in outlying areas where there are no local volunteers and travel to AWP for wish activities.

• Assists with volunteer-associated development events as needed.

• Tracks and replenishes inventory that is needed to conduct wish events and mailings.

• The person in this position has some control of scheduling, but hours generally cluster in late afternoons and early evenings, as well as Saturdays, because these are the times that client families are able to visit us.
