Youth and Teen Assistant Director

Education/Training Management

Title:  Youth and Teen Assistant Director

Supervisor:  Youth and Teen Director

Hours: 40 hours weekly/non-exempt

Responsibilities/Job Description: As part of the Youth and Teen Department, the Assistant Director is responsible for daily operations, children’s programming, scheduling, staff development, and interfacing with parents. When the Youth and Teen Director is unavailable, the Assistant Director represents the Department. The Assistant Director helps resolve conflicts and models positive behavior. Youth and Teen has a seasonal rhythm. We hire seasonal afterschool and summer camp staff and the Assistant Director must meet the demands of the moment while planning ahead, often months down the road. The Assistant Director is required to lead day camps, sub into classrooms and drive JCC vehicles. The candidate must be at least 21 years of age, with a good driving record, and able to pass a background check. As part of daily operations, the Assistant Director is responsible for files, rosters, calling families, schools and field trip partners, organizing staff training, communicating with parents, organizing activity schedules, arranging staff schedules, etcetera. As part of the JCC, the Assistant Director participates in cross-department meetings and functions collaboratively across the workplace.


Skills: A successful Assistant Director will exhibit meticulous organization and attention to detail. The candidate must be flexible and able to manage multiple demands simultaneously. Timely, professional communication with parents and staff is critical. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Youth and Teen Director. A successful Assistant Director will be a positive role model for children and staff and actively problem-solve.


Qualifications: 

•             2 years of experience working with children 6-12 years of age

•             2 years of experience in a related field with some supervisory responsibilities

•             Background in education or children’s programming preferred

•             Excellent written and verbal communication skills

•             Ability to establish priorities, balance several projects at once

•             Collaborative, friendly, and team-oriented
