Youth Peer Support Program Facilitator (Bilingual – Spanish/English)
Position Summary
The Youth Peer Support Program Facilitator is responsible for the delivery, coordination, and quality implementation of youth peer support services and psychoeducational programming for youth ages 12–18, with some programming for children ages 6–12 and their families.
This role is highly community-embedded and school-based, working closely with middle schools, high schools, and community partners to ensure access to culturally responsive, bilingual peer support services.
The facilitator will support youth, particularly Spanish-speaking, immigrant, refugee, and new American populations, in navigating school systems, developing emotional wellness skills, and achieving both academic and personal success
Key Responsibilities
Direct Youth Peer Support Services
Provide individual and group peer support to youth ages 12–30
Build trusting relationships with youth navigating:
Cultural transition
Language barriers
Immigration-related challenges
Behavioral health and substance use concerns
Supporting youth in developing:
Emotional regulation
Communication skills
Self-advocacy
Social integration within school environments
School-Based Collaboration & Support
Deliver services within middle schools and high schools
Collaborate with:
School counselors
Social workers
Teachers and administrators
Support youth in:
Academic engagement and success
Behavioral and social integration
Navigating school systems and expectations
Advocate for culturally responsive approaches within school settings
Program Facilitation & Curriculum Delivery
Lead and implement structured programs, including:
Emotional Intelligence (youth & parents)
How to Be Hangry (emotional regulation)
Youth peer groups (e.g., Fuerza Youth Group)
Ensure programming is:
Developmentally appropriate
Trauma-informed
Culturally and linguistically responsive
Facilitate sessions for both youth and parents/caregivers
Program Management & Fidelity
Oversee implementation, quality, and fidelity of assigned programs
Track participation, engagement, and outcomes
Support program evaluation and continuous improvement
Maintain program structure while adapting to community needs
Volunteer Coordination & Training
Recruit, train, and support program volunteers
Provide supervision and guidance during program delivery
Serve as backup facilitator when needed
Family Engagement
Engage parents and caregivers in programming
Provide education on:
Emotional wellness
Youth development
Behavioral health and substance use prevention
Strengthen family communication and support systems
Education, Prevention, and Harm Reduction
Develop and/or deliver psychoeducational content focused on:
Mental health awareness
Substance use disorder prevention
Suicide prevention and postvention
Overdose prevention and education
Harm reduction strategies
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate and timely:
Case notes
Attendance records
Program reports
Track caseload (approximately 15–25 youth depending on role scope)
Outreach & Community Engagement
Participating in community events, school outreach, and engagement efforts
Attend at least two community events per month
Build relationships with community partners
Travel & Flexibility
Travel between JRSS sites and community/school locations
Adapt schedule based on program needs and school calendars
Minimum Qualifications
Bilingual (Spanish/English) – required
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (4 years)
Experience working with youth and/or young adults
Ability to pass a background check
Valid driver’s license and reliable and insured transportation
Willingness to work flexible hours (including evenings/weekends)
Lived experience with:
Mental health recovery
Substance use recovery
Cooccurring conditions
Criminal justice systems
Immigration/new American experience
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with:
Schools or youth-serving systems
Immigrant, refugee, or underserved communities
Experience developing or facilitating:
Educational or psychoeducational curricula
Mental health and substance use prevention, intervention, and postvention curricula
Self help support groups
Experience working with both youth and families
Peer Support Certification (or willingness to obtain through DSAMH)
