Reinventing Your Volunteer Management in a Virtual World: Case Study: When the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Salt Lake City took stock of the health and safety concerns jettisoned into their lap by the pandemic, their initial concern was to protect their volunteers, team, and community. In March, they shuttered volunteer operations and then spent several weeks reinventing volunteering at the IRC. In May, they reintroduced volunteers—through virtual and remote roles—to the IRC. This retooling permitted volunteers to safely get back to helping refugee families rebuild their lives in Utah—in spite of the pandemic. Volunteers are needed now more than ever, but health and safety concerns continue to limit engagement opportunities. Learn about how the IRC faced and continues to face volunteer challenges head on.
