Course Description

In partnership with UNA and fundraising expert Scott Mietchen, this course offers practical, actionable strategies to enhance your fundraising capacity and meet the highest standards of ethical fundraising. Who Should Attend
Nonprofit leaders and staff, including executive leadership and key development staff, as well as any other team members that would benefit by participating in this Credential course. Participants will gain both understanding of essential elements of fundraising as well as a practical path for application of the content.

Subject Matter Expert: Scott Mietchen
Scott brings over 35 years of experience in institutional advancement, including fundraising, foundation and campaign management, consulting, executive search, public relations, marketing, and leadership in volunteer and staff management. Before joining FRCI in 2006, he was Vice President for University Advancement at Utah State University, where he led the university’s first $300 million campaign, achieving record-breaking private gifts. Previously, Scott served as Executive Director of Development at the University of Utah, where he played key roles in two major campaigns, raising $1 billion and $760 million, and established the university’s first comprehensive major gifts program.
Beyond his professional achievements, Scott has been deeply involved in nonprofit leadership, serving as President of the Utah Society of Fund Raisers and the Tracy Aviary, and as a board member for various organizations, including Phi Delta Theta International Fraternity and the University of Utah School of Music. A Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) and an adjunct faculty member in the University of Utah’s MPA program, Scott was honored as Fundraiser of the Year by the Utah Society of Fund Raisers in 2006. He holds both an MPA and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah and lives in Salt Lake City with his wife and their two adult children.
